Emerald Elementary School is one step closer to becoming a home fit for Dragons.

When architects needed a drainage system in front of the school, students dubbed the future dry creek bed, with a wooden foot bridge, a moat.

Once a new school building is constructed, a gas fireplace will face the library and entrance to the school — another nod to the school’s mascot.

“Fire is our moto,” Principal Samara Williams said Wednesday after a ground breaking ceremony. “So it just goes perfectly with that.”
