A central theme of the community planning process was the modeling of integrated planning process was the modeling of the integrated learning, mentorship ,and community service concept. Joint-use and shared facilities to date involved the sequential use of the same spaces. NCSF is unique in that students, professionals, and community members use many of the same spaces at the same time.
To clarify what sustainable design goals are , FNI led a sustainable design workshop in which teachers and administrators brainstormed under the guidance of FNI Kim Rink of EkoTek, British Columbia who presented many examples of green projects in Canada.
