Charlie Gaidica

Associate Designer

Charlie is an Associate Designer in Fielding Nair’s Michigan studio with a diverse background in architecture, education, theatrical design, mathematics, and construction.  Seeking to leverage this varied expertise, he approaches every new project with an eye toward educational functionality that couples with experiential spatial qualities.  Given the importance education has in shaping not only the minds of students but the values of their communities, he firmly believes that schools should be inviting, engaging, safe spaces for those they house.

While his long-term interests lie more firmly in architectural and educational theory, he currently pursues applications that put theory to practice to transform the learning environment and experience for younger generations.  Building from his thesis work, which examined the extremes of cross- and inter-disciplinary design, he strives to design fluid spaces that naturally promote the learning modalities essential to a 21st century education.

Recent projects with FNI include Hillel Day School’s renovation of its Kindergarten through 2nd Grade and 3rd through 6th Grade wings in Farmington Hills, Michigan; Boulder Valley School District’s new Creekside and Douglass Elementary schools in Boulder, Colorado; and Cedar Falls Community School District’s new 73,000 square foot Elementary school in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Prior to his architectural studies and joining the FNI team Charlie worked as a scenic designer in Chicago and New York and taught collaboration courses at NYU’s Playwrights Horizons Theater School.

Charlie holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Northwestern University.  He is currently pursuing licensure and is always eager to continue his own education.
