Heatherwood’s Brent Caldwell named as new principal
Walking into Boulder Valley’s new pre-K-8 in Erie, students will pass the offices and land in the “heart,” a cafeteria and gathering space designed to look like a cafe with views of the mountains.
The cafeteria connects outside, to a courtyard and amphitheater, or up a wide, carpeted staircase that doubles as more seating to the second floor’s curiosity center, or library, and a small “treehouse” space.
Around those main features are learning communities of about 150 students each that group together preschool and kindergarten, first- and second-grades, third- and fourth-grades, fifth- and sixth-grades, and seventh- and eighth-grades.
Those learning communities include four classroom spaces, two small group spaces and two flexible studios that could be used for science, maker spaces or other projects. There’s also music spaces and a gym.
“We hope that this will be a really inspiring space for students,” said Isaac Williams, principal at architectural consulting firm Fielding Nair International.
