  • ACADEMY OF THE HOLY NAMES

“The Academy of the Holy Names and its community
values a unique educational model that is open to
families of all faiths and backgrounds who share the
school’s mission and values; is respectfully responsive
to the needs of diverse learners.

    - From the Mission Statement, Academy of The Holy Names

    Tampa, Florida

The Campus Master Plan for the Academy of the Holy Names was developed over a
three-month period of intensive work. This Master Plan was formulated to support
the strategic plan set forth by the Academy of the Holy Names Leadership Team.
During the Discovery Phase, the AHN Leadership Team and School Community
identified some key goals that should be met to achieve this plan.

This Master Plan addresses these community goals:
    • Creation of a dedicated Center for the Arts
    • Additional parking capacity on campus
    • Reconfiguration of the existing educational spaces to provide a greater degree
of collaboration, self-directed study, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities
    • Construction of a more welcoming entrance to the chapel
    • Creation of a Heritage Center that will present the history of the school
    • Improvements to the Brady Center
    • Consolidation and expansion of the Middle School
    • Expansion of the High School

This new Middle School Pilot Project has a variety of spaces that support
    individualized learning with laptops.

Students can now easily meet with teachers in small groups to clarify questions
    about the learning material.

The Master plan calls for renovation of the existing Media Center into the new Middle
School (Grades 5-8). Each floor will be split into two Small Learning Communities that
would be connected by a central common space. Conference rooms and Teacher
Collaborative Workrooms will act as buffers between this central area and two learning
zones while maintaining a degree of transparency.

White boards and clear glass throughout provide spaces for calculations and
    brainstorming alone or in groups.

Multiple monitors and electrical outlets allow students to use technology
    seamlessly during their day.

The historic Bayshore Building was constructed in 1929 with a structural steel
frame system, a concrete deck floor system and terra cotta partition walls.
This system is surprisingly flexible and will allow us to create spacious 21st
    century learning communities.

Spaces can still be closed off for teacher instruction, or left open for other modalities.

Allowing students to choose from a variety of seating options helps them keep
comfortable and focused on their work.
