  • North Central Shared Facility

    Regina, Saskatchewan

“To provide services from a shared facility
focused on youth and families within a
    vibrant thriving neighbourhood, in North
Central Regina, that is a partnership
    between community, schools and service
    providers working collaboratively to
improve outcomes in the determinants of
    health and social well being.”

    - NCSF Steering Committee Mission Statement

The joining together of multiple service providers in a brand new working relationship to
deliver services from a single site in a vibrant, thriving community is revolutionary,
innovative, and inspiring. The concept for a Shared Facility in North Central Regina is an
initiative that will contribute to the overall efforts to revitalize the community, improve
the quality of life for its residents, initiate economic growth and long-term viability, and
create a welcoming destination for the community.

The first level of the Shared Facility is a mix of shared community learning spaces and
Centres of Excellence that integrate service organizations and learning programs. One
might ask the question “where is the school?” The answer is: Everywhere! Learning
spaces are distributed throughout both floors of the facility.

The second floor of the NCSF is home to the various Centres of Excellence, shared community
resources, and three Personal Learning Communities (PLCs) dedicated to Scott Collegiate. Each
of these PLCs includes a central Commons with student workstations, teacher collaboration
spaces, gathering and presentation spaces, hands-on science and invention studios, and small
    meeting rooms.

The North Central Shared Facility (NCSF) is intended to nurture a neighbourhood learning
network – connecting the community and inspiring growth and revitalization. This diagram
represents how the new NCSF would be connected and integrated into the neighbouring
businesses, schools, homes and community resources.

The commons brings in great southern daylight from a series of rooftop light monitors
connecting visitors to the time of day and season. Large glass bays to the east bring in
great views of the central green, and help keep the space warm in the winter. The thick
masonry wall shown in red absorbs the heat energy from the sun and slowly releases it,
keeping the space warm while acting as a sound insulator for the Multipurpose Room.

On the northwest corner, this Centre of Excellence houses a branded gymnasium capable
of becoming two smaller gyms. South of the gymnasium is community multi-purpose
space. The second floor includes a dance studio, weight room, recording studio,
DaVinci studio, pottery and sewing studios.

To the left of the main south entry is the Albert Branch of the Regina Public Library &
Centre for Information Technology with its stepping roofs and bay windows. To the
right is the Café, REACH (Regina Education and Action on Child Hunger) Marketplace
and the Centre for Entrepreneurship and Community Development.
