Sam is a Senior Designer and a Project Manager with Fielding Nair International. Originally from New Orleans, Spokane, and San Antonio; Sam currently lives in Providence, Rhode Island with his wife and dog. Prior to working at FNI, Sam specialized in the design of zoo exhibits and other institutional projects, and values elegant, surprising, and artfully crafted solutions to design problems of all scales. Sam believes that both existing and proposed learning spaces should be continuously re-examined to ensure that they enable, not obstruct, the full spectrum of learning modalities. Sam uses his knowledge of materials and building science to design innovative educational environments that are engaging, tactile, and comfortable spaces.
Current projects with FNI include two large scale master plans, one for the Rye City School District and one for the International School Basel, as well as the recently completed Middle School renovations for the Academy of the Holy Names in Tampa.
Sam graduated with a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the Rhode Island School of Design. He has traveled extensively, studying abroad in Scotland, India, and Switzerland. Sam also has a passion for building furniture and supporting the arts, and enjoys making temporary winter hot tubs with his friends.
